Basin Community Committee

The BCC is established under the Water Act 2007 (Cwlth) to provide advice to the Authority about the performance of the Authority's functions including community engagement relating to Basin water resource issues and the preparation of the Basin Plan.

The members of the BCC were selected on the basis of their expertise or interest in community, water use, environmental water management, Indigenous or local government matters. More information about members is available on the Members of the Basin Community Committee page.

The BCC must also establish irrigation and environmental water subcommittees, and an Indigenous water subcommittee to guide the consideration of Indigenous matters relevant to the Basin's water resources. The BCC may also establish other subcommittees.

The BCC has a role in advising the Murray Darling Basin Ministerial Council on its functions under the Murray–Darling Basin Agreement, which may include matters such as delivery of natural resource management programs.

The Ministerial Council may also invite the Chair of the BCC to attend meetings of the Ministerial Council as an observer.

In performing these functions, the BCC liaises with the wider Basin community, including possibly convening regional meetings with relevant groups during the planning process for the Basin Plan, and undertaking appropriate liaison activities to help provide advice to the authority and the Ministerial Council.

A secretariat in the authority supports the work of the BCC.
