![]() Other Past events 2011In the lead up to the formal release of the draft Basin Plan, we spent a lot of time briefing peak industry bodies and stakeholder groups to share thinking at the time. These groups included the Australian Conservation Foundation, the National Farmers’ Federation and the National Irrigators’ Council, where we tested the science and modelling behind the plan, the findings of the socio-economic studies we commissioned and how we should communicate our proposals. Following this, we met with their member groups to share information, answer questions and build understanding of the issues. We held similar meetings with members of the dairy industry, catchment management authorities and with Regional Development Australia representatives. We met with local groups from the Lower Lakes, the Lower Balonne, Shepparton and Aboriginal representatives. We met regularly with groups such as the Victorian Basin Plan Advisory Group and the South Australian River Communities and were involved in intense workshops with the Murrumbidgee Valley Stakeholder Group and the Murray Group of Concerned Communities. The information we gathered from these groups was very valuable and we continue to work with them following the release of the draft Basin Plan.
