Governance and partnerships

A partnership approach is a key aspect of the Native Fish Strategy.
Advice on program delivery is provided by the Implementation Working Group (IWG), which is made up of agency representatives from each of the jurisdictions in the Murray–Darling Basin.

The Community Stakeholder Taskforce also helps guide the Native Fish Strategy by allowing a community perspective to be provided on communication and engagement activities. Various working groups deal with specific issues in implementing the Native Fish Strategy.

For the strategy to meet its objectives and achieve its goal, there must be strong linkages and partnerships between the Murray–Darling Basin Authority and other organisations that manage aquatic initiatives and programs. The success of the strategy also depends on the commitment of individual landholders, Indigenous communities, Landcare groups, catchment management organisations, waterway managers and users, urban and rural community groups, local, state and Australian government agencies, as well as the Murray–Darling Basin Authority.
