The rivers of the southern Basin are normally highly regulated, however they return to a more natural flow regime under flood conditions when headwater dams fill and spill. The Authority is responsible for the management of the River Murray System, including Menindee Lakes when under its control. The States of NSW and Victoria are responsible for management of major Murray tributaries including the Murrumbidgee and Goulburn Rivers respectively.
