Water recovery factors for New South Wales

The New South Wales Government, with support from the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA), has been working on updating the 2011 factors. The updated factors have been released by the New South Wales Government following public consultation.

These factors will be used to update the estimates of water recovered in New South Wales and determine whether the water recovery targets have been met.

In updating the factors, the New South Wales Government considered:

  • recent information on water usage, along with historical information on usage and carryover
  • climatic patterns over the past one hundred years
  • water trade patterns, including interjurisdictional change and trade between entitlement types
  • local rules regarding water access in each area through individual water sharing plans.

Updated factors will be finalised through the accreditation of water resource plans.
