State water resource plans

Basin state governments develop water resource plans. The Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) works closely with Basin state governments to ensure water resource plans meet the requirements of the Basin Plan, and address the local requirements of water resource management.

Stages and responsibilities

  • Assist: the water resource plan is being drafted or is being prepared for amendment by Basin state governments and the MDBA is responsible at the Assist stage
  • Assess: the MDBA is responsible at the Assess stage
  • Accredit: the Commonwealth Minister responsible for water is responsible at the Accredit stage
  • Amend: an accredited water resource plan is proposed for amendment – assist, assess and accredit stages occur as before, except the accredited water resource plan remains in place until a new one is accredited
The New South Wales Government has withdrawn 7 water resource plans that were under assessment by the MDBA. When these water resource plans are resubmitted, they will be published here.
