The Murray–Darling Basin Authority has consulted with around 20,000 community members at 28 community information sessions on the Guide to the proposed Basin Plan.

Held over the past five weeks, each session was an opportunity for people to provide feedback on the proposals in the Guide and ask direct questions of the Authority Chair Michael Taylor and Chief Executive Rob Freeman, who attended the meetings.

"The sessions have given the Authority a valuable opportunity to hear first-hand the depths of people's issues and concerns about the potential impacts of the Basin Plan. This feedback will now be considered in our work on the Proposed Basin Plan," said Chief Executive Rob Freeman.

"We hope that people have come to realise that the Authority is committed to transparency and real and ongoing engagement with Basin communities."

Feedback will also inform future consultation, including the timing and location of further meetings. Technical briefings with peak bodies and regional representatives will be held in Canberra on 22 and 23 November to discuss the details in volume 2 of the Guide. Members of the Authority and key staff are also attending many stakeholders' meetings.

Summaries of the feedback provided to the Authority have been available on the website following each meeting.

The Authority will accept feedback on the Guide at any time, but feedback submitted by the end of November will be considered in the preparation of the proposed Basin Plan. The proposed Basin Plan will be released next year for further detailed consultation.

The MDBA would like to express its thanks for all the views and input it has received to date. It encourages everyone with an interest in the Basin to participate in the process of consultation and be part of the Basin Plan.
