Murray operations get tick of approval

The annual check-up on how the MDBA is managing the River Murray System has found we are meeting our requirements.
Published: 12 January 2022

The River Murray System Annual Summary of River Operations and the Independent River Operations Review Group's (IRORG) Review of performance against the objectives and outcomes 2020–21 is now available.

Each year the MDBA releases an annual summary of River Operations. The annual summary describes the operating conditions experienced and river operations undertaken across the River Murray system during the 2020/21 water year. Subsequently, an independent advisory group reviews the MDBA’s performance in managing the river, and its compliance against the Objectives and Outcomes and reports back to the Basin Officials Committee on performance.

The Objectives and Outcomes for River Operations in the River Murray System are set by the Basin Officials Committee and are based around 5 themes:

  • Water storage, delivery and accounting
  • River Murray Operations (RMO) assets
  • People and communities
  • Environment
  • Information and communication

IRORG’s reviews have found that the MDBA has fulfilled its obligations for the past 3 water years.
