Planned works on the Chowilla Floodplain

The Chowilla Floodplain covers 17,750 ha. The floodplain environment is undergoing a severe decline due to the reduction in frequency of flooding and impact of highly saline groundwater resulting in the death of long-lived vegetation, rising soil salinity and decreased breeding opportunities for floodplain fauna. The Living Murray aims to reverse this decline by enabling inundation of large areas of the floodplain at frequencies more like the natural conditions under which plants and animals have evolved.
