Wimmera-Mallee (groundwater) Water Resource Plan

Victoria formally submitted the proposed Wimmera–Mallee (groundwater) Water Resource Plan (proposed WRP) package for assessment to the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (the MDBA) under the Commonwealth Water Act 2007 (the Act) on 3 July 2019.

Previous versions of the proposed WRP were submitted to the Authority in June 2018 and February 2019. In May 2019 Victoria was notified of grounds on which the Authority considered that it should recommend the Minister not accredit the proposed WRP. On 3 July 2019, Victoria withdrew the version submitted in February 2019 and submitted a new version.

The MDBA has completed assessment of the WRP against Basin Plan requirements and the Authority has made a recommendation to the Commonwealth Minister responsible for water (the Minister). The proposed WRP is currently with the Minister for consideration and decision on accreditation.

The proposed WRP is not operational. The publication of the proposed WRP on the MDBA’s website is to enable transparency.

The MDBA will publish all WRP submission documents as soon as practical. This page was updated on 23 August 2019.
