Landholders and river users, including pumpers, on the Mitta Mitta River are advised to take into account the forecast releases of water from Dartmouth Dam and make any necessary adjustment to their river activities.

Transfers from Dartmouth Dam to Hume Dam have been necessary since August to ensure sufficient volume was in Hume to meet River Murray System demands and transfers to Lake Victoria. With the recent and forecast easing in system demands, Lake Victoria transfers have eased during February and are expected to reduce further during autumn. Therefore transfers from Dartmouth Dam to Hume Dam are to reduce over the coming weeks.

Releases from Dartmouth are expected to slowly decrease to 600 ML/day by 12 March. Without rainfall, the reduction in Dartmouth release is expected to result in the flow at Tallandoon receding to around 600-700 ML/day (1.42-1.47 m local gauge height).

A more detailed short-term release forecast is available on the MDBA River Murray data site. Landholders and river users on the Mitta Mitta are advised to regularly check this website for more information on current and future releases from Dartmouth Dam. Summary information about the River Murray system is available in the River Murray weekly report.

If you are observing bank erosion around key assets on your property, as a result of the recent higher river flows, please call the North East Catchment Management Authority (NECMA). NECMA implements a riparian program in conjunction with the MDBA that aims to help manage erosional impacts related to high flow rates along the Mitta Mitta River downstream of Dartmouth Dam.
